‘Christmas Collection’ and ‘Still life’

‘Christmas Collection’ and ‘Still life’

6 November – 1 March 2015

Various techniques and media by 30+ artists

Oils by Marian Blank

Christmas will soon be here. Are you starting to wonder what gifts to buy that have meaning, originality and value but don’t cost the earth?

Falkner Gallery will host an exciting, changing exhibition commencing 6 November entitled ‘Christmas Collection’. Small, original, affordable works by over 30 talented artists – [local, regional, national and international] will be displayed. Techniques include drawings, linocuts, woodcuts, monoprints, etchings, engravings, collagraphs, montages and collages. Prices are $50, $100 and $200.

Rather than struggling to find inexpensive Kris Kringle gifts, why not pool together with family members to buy one exclusive, special and valuable gift by an accomplished artist? It will be a gift that lasts and is appreciated forever.

Works purchased may be collected immediately, rather than at the end of the exhibition, giving time to have them framed if desired. This will mean the ‘Christmas Collection’ exhibition will constantly evolve as new works replace those sold.

Upstairs are superb, framed, still life oil paintings by MARIAN BLANK. She states: “ We are surrounded by still life in our domestic lives and it is often the simplest combinations of colours, textures and patterns that I find the most beautiful. Colour provides my greatest inspiration and joy when I paint.”

Formerly an art teacher in Melbourne secondary schools, Marian uses cropped compositions to give her paintings a sense of intimacy allowing the viewer to connect immediately with the flowers, fruits, crockery and fabric she has selected. At the same time, her vibrant and richly coloured compositions possess a strong sense of design and structure.

Both exhibitions commence 6 November and will continue until 1 March. [Gallery closed for Summer Break 25 Dec – 21 Jan]  Some of the artists will be present Saturday 8 November 2 – 4pm.

Hours: Thursday – Sunday 11-5
